Google and Glance have partnered to bring AI-powered shopping and product discovery to Android TV devices. The integration aims to transform the television’s ambient screen into an interactive platform where users can explore lifestyle content, discover products and shop directly through retail partners.
The experience is launching in the United States, India and Japan. Glance, an AI-powered personal shopping platform backed by technology company InMobi, will offer an opt-in experience designed to connect shopping inspiration with purchasing options.
Android TV Ambient Screen Gets a New Purpose
The partnership focuses on making better use of the television screen when it is not actively being used to watch content. Instead of displaying a traditional ambient backdrop, supported Android TV devices can offer a continuous stream of lifestyle inspiration and product discovery through Glance.
The experience is designed to make the TV screen more interactive, allowing users to explore content and shopping options during periods when the television would otherwise display its default ambient mode.
AI Shopping Agent Connects Inspiration With Purchases
A key feature of the integration is an AI-powered shopping agent that connects shopping experiences across mobile devices and televisions. Supported by hundreds of retailer integrations, the system is designed to help users move from discovering products to exploring purchase options.
The platform aims to act as a personal shopping assistant by presenting curated products and helping users engage with items that match their interests.
Explore Fashion, Travel, Food and Wellness
Glance will offer high-definition lifestyle content across categories such as fashion, travel, food and wellness. Its proprietary AI technology supports contextual lifestyle simulations and virtual try-on visualisations, helping users explore products and styles in a more immersive format.
The experience is designed to make product discovery more visual and interactive, using the television’s screen to present lifestyle ideas and curated content.
Shop the Look Directly From the TV
The integration also introduces a Shop the Look feature. Users can interact with curated looks displayed on their television and purchase products through integrated retail partners.
By connecting visual inspiration with shopping options, the feature aims to reduce the gap between discovering a product and finding a way to buy it.
Opt-In Experience Gives Users Control
The Glance ambient experience is entirely opt-in. Users can choose whether to switch from the default Google Backdrop to the Glance-powered experience, keeping the decision in their hands.
This approach allows users to access the new shopping and discovery features without making the experience compulsory across supported devices.
Glance Expands Its Global Reach Through Google Partnership
For Google, the integration adds shopping and lifestyle discovery features to the Android TV platform. For Glance, the partnership expands its potential global distribution, building on existing collaborations with Airtel and DIRECTV.
The companies aim to use the television as another point of access for AI-powered discovery and commerce, extending the shopping experience beyond smartphones.
Availability in India and Other Markets
Glance is now available on supported Android TV devices in the United States, India and Japan. The experience is opt-in, allowing users to choose whether to activate the Glance ambient screen instead of the default Google Backdrop.
Leadership Comment
“We are moving beyond the era of the ‘dormant’ screen,” said Naveen Tewari, CEO and Founder at InMobi and Glance. “By combining the scale of Google’s Android TV ecosystem with Glance’s AI-first commerce models, we are turning the living room into a space where inspiration meets intent. Whether it’s fashion, home décor, or travel, we’re making shopping and discovery seamless, immersive, and interactive.”
