The race for dominating Artificial Intelligence space intensified as billionaire Elon Musk announced that he will introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) platform named “TruthGPT” to compete with Microsoft’s (MSFT.O) and Google’s (GOOGL.O) offerings.
During an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News Channel that aired on Monday, billionaire Elon Musk announced his plans to launch an artificial intelligence platform named “TruthGPT”. He explained that this platform would aim to seek maximum truth and comprehend the nature of the universe. Musk also added that TruthGPT could be the safest path forward as it is less likely to harm humans and that he plans to create a third option, although he admits that he is starting late.
Elon Musk and a group of AI experts and industry executives called for a six-month halt in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI’s newly launched GPT-4 some days ago. The group cited potential risks to society with the development of increasingly advanced AI systems. Now, Musk has announced the news to create a “third option” in the AI space.
According to a state filing, a firm named X.AI Corp was registered by Musk last month in Nevada. Musk was listed as the sole director, while Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk’s family office, was listed as the secretary.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Musk has been hiring AI researchers from Google’s parent company Alphabet to establish a startup that would compete with OpenAI.
Interestingly, Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but he resigned from the board in 2018, citing his need to concentrate on his duties at Tesla and SpaceX. Musk tweeted in 2019 that his departure from OpenAI was also due to the fact that Tesla and OpenAI were vying for some of the same personnel, and he didn’t approve of specific OpenAI team objectives.
With the three tech giants competing with each, the race to take the lead in the AI space will undoubtedly intensify.
