Japanese semiconductor and automation equipment manufacturer Hirata Corporation has entered the Indian market through a strategic partnership with ATS India (Automated Tooling Systems India).
Under the partnership, ATS India will serve as Hirata’s exclusive distribution partner in India, bringing the Japanese company’s globally proven equipment and technology portfolio to the Indian market.
The partnership comes as India continues to accelerate efforts to build domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Hirata Aims to Address Semiconductor Equipment Access
India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem is still at an early stage of development. Access to globally benchmarked backend equipment and automation has remained a challenge for manufacturers, with equipment procurement often involving long lead times, cross-border coordination and limited local support.
Hirata’s formal entry into India through its partnership with ATS India is intended to address this gap by bringing its semiconductor automation and material-handling technologies closer to Indian manufacturers.
Partnership Builds on More Than a Decade of Association
The partnership between Hirata and ATS India builds on an existing relationship that has continued for more than a decade across sectors including automotive.
The two companies are now extending this relationship into the semiconductor manufacturing domain. In the initial phase, Hirata will focus on its standard product offerings in India, where it sees immediate opportunities based on the current stage of the country’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Hirata to Bring Semiconductor Automation Technologies to India
Through the partnership, ATS India will bring several Hirata technologies for semiconductor automation and material handling to India.
These include Equipment Front End Modules (EFEMs), FOPLP Load Ports, PLP Panel Handling Robots and high-performance Wafer Handling Robots.
These solutions are designed for precise, reliable and efficient wafer and panel handling across semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging processes.
Focus on Semiconductor Manufacturing and Advanced Packaging
The partnership will focus on areas including semiconductor manufacturing, backend and OSAT processes, advanced packaging, and wafer and panel handling automation.
The companies see this as part of the next phase of India’s EMS growth, which is expected to move beyond assembly-led manufacturing towards greater depth in components, engineering and higher-complexity manufacturing.
Partnership to Support Local Supply Chain and Skills
The collaboration is also expected to contribute to the development of India’s local supply chain ecosystem and support skill development in precision manufacturing.
The partnership aligns with the broader push to strengthen domestic semiconductor and electronic manufacturing capabilities in India.
India EMS Market Expected to Cross $150 Billion by FY30
According to the information provided by the companies, India’s electronic manufacturing services (EMS) market is expected to exceed $150 billion by FY30, compared with an estimated $40–45 billion in 2025.
The expected growth is being driven by domestic demand, policy support and China+1 strategies.
As India’s semiconductor manufacturing base continues to scale over the next two to three years through government-led initiatives, ATS India and Hirata aim to support this expansion through semiconductor automation and equipment.
Hirata and ATS India Target India’s Semiconductor Growth
The partnership between Hirata Corporation and ATS India marks Hirata’s formal entry into the Indian semiconductor equipment market. By combining Hirata’s automation and material-handling technologies with ATS India’s role as an exclusive distribution partner, the companies aim to support the development of India’s semiconductor manufacturing and EMS ecosystem.
The partnership is focused on enabling semiconductor manufacturing, backend processes, advanced packaging and wafer and panel handling automation as India’s domestic electronics manufacturing capabilities continue to develop.
