According to Bhuvnesh Kumar, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, all IT systems used by the central government will soon support email communication in Hindi scripts within the next two years. The Ministry has already begun working towards making 15 ministry websites UA-compliant and providing content in Hindi. While Hindi script will be the first to be supported, other languages will be added later. Additionally, the Centre is urging state governments to provide content in local languages.
ICANN, the global internet body, has been championing Universal Acceptance (UA) to promote equal access to the internet for non-English speakers. Big tech firms, such as Google and Microsoft, are supporting UA, and local companies are encouraged to follow suit. The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) CEO A K Jain confirmed that domain names in all Indian language scripts can now be booked, and the central government has begun implementing UA. By adopting UA, language barriers can be addressed, and more people can access the internet.
