OptiValueTek Outlines Responsible AI Framework for Defence and Critical Infrastructure Protection

OptiValueTek, a technology and strategic advisory firm, has outlined a responsible artificial intelligence (AI) framework for defence technology and critical infrastructure protection. Announced on October 16, 2026, the framework focuses on human oversight, validated data and accountable decision-making in safety-critical environments.

Detailed in its strategic whitepaper, Responsible AI at the Edge of Consequence, the framework proposes safeguards to ensure AI-enabled systems operate within defined limits. It emphasises human intervention, verifiable AI decisions and independent safety controls for applications where errors could have serious consequences.

Six-Layer Architecture for Responsible AI

The whitepaper proposes a six-layer architecture covering mission requirements, data integrity, AI inference, decision authority, controlled execution and continuous assurance.

The framework is designed to establish clear boundaries for AI operations, with safeguards at different stages of the decision-making process. It also recommends testing systems against inaccurate sensor inputs, cyber threats, false alarms and connectivity failures before deploying them in operational environments.

Potential AI Applications in Defence and Critical Infrastructure

For defence applications, OptiValueTek identifies equipment readiness, logistics management and security-event analysis as potential use cases for AI.

In critical infrastructure protection, the framework highlights opportunities across energy facilities, industrial sites, ports, airports and essential utilities. However, it stresses that AI systems must operate within established safety mechanisms and should not bypass existing safeguards.

Phased Implementation and Independent Testing

The whitepaper recommends a phased approach to implementing responsible AI. The proposed process includes risk assessment, offline testing, independent technical review and controlled pilot deployments.

OptiValueTek has also drawn on established references, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s AI Risk Management Framework, to inform its approach to responsible AI adoption.

These measures are intended to help organisations evaluate system reliability and identify potential risks before introducing AI into high-consequence operational environments.

OptiValueTek Expands Focus on AI and Defence Technology

The responsible AI framework builds on OptiValueTek’s strategic expansion into AI, digital twins and defence technology. Its initiatives include the previously announced Integrated Counter-UAV Defence System (ICUDS) initiative and the SENTINEL-DOME platform for critical infrastructure protection.

Through its latest whitepaper, the company positions transparency, safety assurance and human accountability as essential requirements for integrating AI into systems that support public safety and essential services.

Leadership Comment

Ashish Kumar, Managing Director, OptiValue Tek Consulting, said, “As AI becomes increasingly integrated into defence systems and critical infrastructure, the focus must extend beyond what these technologies can do to how reliably and responsibly they operate. In high-consequence environments, AI must work within clearly defined boundaries, with decisions that can be verified and human oversight that remains central. Responsible AI is not just about improving system performance; it is about ensuring that innovation does not compromise safety, accountability or operational resilience.”
