Fitbit by Google has unveiled the new Fitbit Air, a compact screenless wearable designed to make health tracking simpler, more comfortable, and more accessible. Positioned as a lightweight wellness companion, Fitbit Air is aimed at users who find traditional wearables bulky, complicated, or expensive.
The company says the new device has been developed to work closely with the Google Health ecosystem, bringing AI-driven health insights and recommendations to a wider range of users.
Compact Design with Continuous Health Monitoring
Fitbit Air features a minimal pebble-shaped design that sits discreetly on the wrist without a display, allowing users to remain notification-free while still accessing health data through the Google Health app on their smartphones.
Despite its compact form factor, the tracker includes advanced health monitoring capabilities such as 24/7 heart rate tracking, heart rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts, SpO2 tracking, resting heart rate measurement, heart rate variability analysis, sleep stage tracking, and sleep duration monitoring.
Google says the lightweight profile is designed for continuous wear throughout the day and night, with a strong emphasis on sleep tracking and all-day comfort.
Battery Life and Fast Charging
The Fitbit Air offers up to one week of battery life on a single charge. The device also supports fast charging, with Google claiming users can gain a full day of battery life with just five minutes of charging.
The company highlighted that users can switch between devices such as a Pixel Watch during the day and Fitbit Air during sleep without losing continuity in health tracking.
AI-Powered Activity Tracking and Google Health Coach
The wearable integrates with Google Health Coach to provide guided workouts, personalized activity insights, and automatic workout detection. Fitbit Air can identify and track common activities automatically, while the Google Health app enables users to manually log exercises or even upload photos of workout equipment and routines for AI-assisted tracking.
Google says the automatic activity detection system improves over time by learning individual user behaviour and preferences.
Multiple Band Styles and Stephen Curry Edition
Fitbit Air will support interchangeable bands designed for different use cases and styles. The lineup includes the Performance Loop Band made from recycled materials, the sweat-resistant Active Band for workouts, and the Elevated Modern Band designed to resemble a fashion bracelet.
Google has also introduced a special edition variant co-designed with Stephen Curry. The special edition Performance Loop band features a rye brown and orange colour scheme along with a water-resistant coating and airflow-focused interior design inspired by athletic racing stripes.
Pricing and Availability of Fitbit Air
The Fitbit Air is compatible with both Android and iOS devices and is available for pre-order starting at $99.99. The special edition version is priced at $129.99 and will go on sale in the United States on May 26. Google is also offering a three-month trial of Google Health Premium with the device, while accessory bands will be available starting at $34.99.
