Jio is preparing for the next generation of mobile connectivity, with the company saying India could be among the first countries to roll out 6G once global standards are finalised in 2030.
The Indian telecom company has already developed its pre-6G stack and Giga MIMO Radio, both of which are being showcased at the ongoing India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 in New Delhi.
6G Could Offer Up to Five Times More Network Capacity
According to Jio, 6G networks could offer up to five times the capacity of current 5G networks, while targeting nearly 10 times lower latency.
Higher capacity could allow networks to handle significantly more data and users at the same time, while lower latency could enable networks to respond to commands much faster. Data speeds are also expected to improve.
6G Could Enable New Digital Services
Jio says these advances could support new applications involving real-time AI, holographic video, healthcare, education and other next-generation digital services.
The company expects 6G to make AI-powered services more responsive, particularly in situations where instant information or quick responses are important.
Jio Showcases Giga MIMO Radio for 6G
A major highlight of Jio’s IMC 2026 showcase is its Giga MIMO Radio, which the company describes as India’s first.
Jio has also unveiled a common baseband unit capable of supporting both 5G and 6G networks.
Jio Highlights 6G Applications for Farmers, Doctors and Students
At India Mobile Congress 2026, Jio highlighted potential AI applications of next-generation connectivity for farmers, doctors and students.
The company is also working towards AI-native and quantum-safe networks, with the aim of combining faster connectivity with stronger security.
Jio Claims More Than 8,000 Patents
Jio says its 6G plans are not limited to developing network technology. The company is also looking to contribute to the technology and global standards that will define the next generation of connectivity.
Jio says it has filed more than 8,000 patents, including hundreds related to 6G. The company also claims to have made more than 934 contributions to global standards.
Jio Focuses on Hardware, Software, Patents and Standards
Jio’s 6G ambitions extend beyond operating next-generation mobile networks. The company wants to strengthen its presence across four key areas: hardware, software, patents and global standards.
The company says its broader 6G vision is represented through two themes: ‘India’s 6G in the Making’ and ‘From India to the World’.
India’s Potential Role in the 6G Era
With its pre-6G stack, Giga MIMO Radio, 5G and 6G-compatible baseband unit and contributions to global standards, Jio is positioning India for a potential early role in the 6G era.
The company expects global 6G standards to be finalised in 2030, after which India could be among the first countries to roll out the next generation of mobile connectivity.
