Nokia Supports Vodafone Idea in 5G Rollout and 4G Expansion

Nokia is strengthening its partnership with Vodafone Idea (Vi) by supplying the latest 5G and 4G baseband and radio modules. This move comes as Vi prepares for a phased rollout of 5G services in key markets. Alongside its 5G push, the telecom operator is aggressively expanding its 4G network, supported by recent equity funding.

Vi Prepares for 5G Launch in March 2025

The year 2025 is a crucial one for Vi as it gears up for the commercial launch of its 5G services in March. Nokia, acting as Vi’s primary 5G technology provider, has already delivered all necessary equipment. The deployment is progressing at a rapid pace, ensuring that Vi remains on track to introduce its next-generation services.

Rapid Expansion of Vi’s 4G Network

Nokia is not just focused on 5G but is also accelerating Vi’s 4G expansion. The telecom giant is rolling out new sites, adding advanced technology, and expanding spectrum bandwidth on existing sites. By March 2025, Nokia aims to deliver over 60,000 technology sites, including thousands of new 4G locations. To enhance connectivity in dense urban areas, ultra-lean sites are also being deployed for an improved user experience.

Cutting-Edge AirScale Technology for Better Performance

Nokia is leveraging its advanced AirScale portfolio, which includes Multi Radio Access Technology (RAT) baseband units and radio modules. These are powered by the energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, ensuring superior coverage and capacity. Additionally, Vi’s Network Management system is undergoing an upgrade with Nokia’s new MantaRay series of products.

As part of a phased rollout, Nokia will also deploy its next-generation AirScale Multi RAT Outdoor compact baseband units. With these efforts, Vodafone Idea is set to strengthen its position in India’s telecom market while delivering enhanced connectivity to millions of users.
