BorgWarner Secures Key Transfer Case Contracts for North American OEM’s Upcoming Truck Platforms

BorgWarner, a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, has strengthened its presence in the North American automotive market by extending contracts with a major OEM to supply transfer cases for new vehicle launches. These contracts cover two advanced types of transfer cases—BorgWarner’s Electro-Mechanical On-Demand 2-Speed (EMOD) and the Electric Shift-on-the-Fly 2-Speed (ESOF) transfer case. The new extensions underscore BorgWarner’s commitment to delivering reliable and cutting-edge drivetrain solutions across both combustion and hybrid platforms.

High-Performance Transfer Cases to Power Combustion and Hybrid Trucks

Under the renewed contract, BorgWarner’s EMOD and ESOF transfer cases will support two of the OEM’s combustion and hybrid passenger truck platforms, while an additional platform will exclusively receive the ESOF. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 for two of the platforms, with the third platform launch planned for 2028. This extended relationship between BorgWarner and the OEM builds on a legacy of over 40 years, positioning BorgWarner as a trusted partner in delivering innovative transfer case technologies to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry.

“We are honored to continue providing our transfer cases for this OEM’s upcoming models,” said Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Drivetrain and Morse Systems. “These contract extensions affirm the reputation and quality of our transfer case products, and we look forward to supporting our customer with exceptional service and performance on its vehicle platforms.”

EMOD Transfer Case: Enhanced Safety and Precision for Modern Vehicles

BorgWarner’s EMOD transfer case is an active, high-performance solution designed to enhance vehicle stability and safety through rapid response and precise torque management. At the heart of the EMOD is a motor-driven clutch-apply system, which allows dynamic torque distribution between the front and rear wheels based on real-time vehicle conditions. While this technology is utilized in several other OEM platforms, this is the first time it will be featured in this particular truck lineup, providing a significant performance upgrade for the platform’s transfer case system.

ESOF Transfer Case: A Reliable Solution for Part-Time Four-Wheel Drive

The ESOF transfer case is a robust solution designed for part-time four-wheel drive, particularly suited to heavy-duty trucks. This system efficiently combines two-wheel drive with the capability to seamlessly lock into four-wheel drive at speed, offering enhanced flexibility for diverse driving conditions. The ESOF is engineered to minimize noise, vibration, and harshness, ensuring a smooth and refined driving experience. Already in its third generation for this platform, the ESOF’s quick-shifting technology has a well-established track record for dependability and performance.

Innovative Engineering with BorgWarner’s HY-VO® Driveline Chain

Both the EMOD and ESOF transfer cases incorporate BorgWarner’s proprietary HY-VO® driveline chain technology, which has been optimized for durability and efficiency. The EMOD model also includes BorgWarner’s premium friction products, further enhancing its performance. All transfer cases will be manufactured at BorgWarner’s state-of-the-art production facility in Seneca, South Carolina, ensuring a high standard of quality and innovation.

Looking Ahead: Commitment to Sustainable and Advanced Mobility Solutions

These new contracts with the OEM mark another step forward in BorgWarner’s mission to provide innovative, reliable, and sustainable mobility solutions. By equipping upcoming vehicle platforms with sophisticated transfer case technologies, BorgWarner is well-positioned to support the transition toward a more sustainable future in the automotive sector.

With this contract extension, BorgWarner continues to pave the way for advanced, efficient, and reliable mobility solutions that meet the rigorous demands of modern passenger trucks and their drivers.
