The new device boasts a unique modular design featuring a six-pin connector on the back, enabling it to pair with specialized cases called “Smart Outfits”—a concept reminiscent of Moto Mods. These cases offer added functionalities and dynamic features, enhancing the phone’s hardware and software capabilities based on the user’s needs.

HMD Fusion’s modular design allows users to seamlessly change the phone’s performance and features through Smart Outfits. Each outfit transforms the phone’s hardware interface and unlocks new possibilities, giving users more control and adaptability for different environments and tasks.
- Flashy Outfit: A must-have for photography lovers, this case incorporates a built-in ring light for both the front and rear cameras, providing customizable lighting settings. Users can adjust camera effects through the integrated camera app for enhanced photography experiences.
- Rugged Outfit: Designed for the adventurous, this case provides robust protection with IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance. It also adds support for wireless charging through magnets and includes an In-Case-of-Emergency (ICE) button, ensuring safety during outdoor activities.

HMD has introduced the Fusion Kit, an open-source software and hardware development kit aimed at developers interested in creating their own Smart Outfits. HMD has confirmed that at least one third-party developer is already committed to creating vertical solutions, expanding the possibilities of what can be achieved with the HMD Fusion. - Built for Repairability
In addition to its innovative modular capabilities, the HMD Fusion shares the Gen2 repairability features found in the HMD Skyline.
