BharatX Acquires Zenifi to Enter Healthcare Finance Segment

Y-Combinator-backed BNPL FinTech startup BharatX has announced the acquisition of Zenifi, a healthcare finance startup offering zero-cost and low-cost EMI solutions. This strategic move allows BharatX, known for providing credit as a service to end users, to foray into the burgeoning medical lending sector.

Leadership Transition and Strategic Goals

As part of the acquisition, Padam Kataria, Co-founder and CEO of Zenifi, will join BharatX as the Head of Business – Healthcare. Kataria, leveraging his extensive experience from Navi and Zenifi, will spearhead the development of BharatX’s healthcare lending vertical.

Padam Kataria, CEO, Zenifi, says, “Joining forces with BharatX is a good opportunity for Zenifi. We have firsthand experience of making medical lending easy and accessible and with BharatX’s well-established credit as a service, the synergies between the two companies will ensure that we can accelerate the speed with which we capture the market. Our goal is to offer easy credit solutions to millions of Indians who are currently left with no choice but to pay OOP for medical situations.”

Zenifi’s Traction and BharatX’s Expansion

Founded in 2023 by Padam Kataria, Harshit Shrivastava, and Rajendra Kulkarni, Zenifi gained traction in the healthcare sector by offering affordable payment options and establishing partnerships with multiple hospitals and aggregators. The startup has generated an annual demand rate worth over Rs. 1.2 crore.

BharatX and Zenifi have had a longstanding partnership, with Zenifi being one of the earliest to utilize BharatX’s lending platform. This acquisition will enable Zenifi to leverage BharatX’s pre-existing platform, optimizing economics and enhancing service delivery.

Addressing Healthcare Financial Challenges

Mehul Jindal, Co-founder CEO, BharatX says, “Healthcare sector in India faces a significant challenge when it comes to paying for medical services. This becomes a problem especially during emergencies. India continues to spend the largest amount for accessing healthcare through their own pockets, making availing medical facilities an expensive proposition. We have been working with Zenifi that is addressing this problem head-on by providing realistic and affordable solutions. This acquisition will allow BharatX to go deeper into the healthcare vertical where currently no fintech or traditional players are able to disburse credit instantly, which is critical in emergency healthcare.”

BharatX’s Growth and Future Plans

BharatX has shown remarkable growth, enabling financing options for over 125 brands in a white-labeled manner. Over the past five quarters, the company has grown 33X and raised more than $4.7 million. By solving credit problems for the Indian middle-class and upper-class, BharatX has disbursed credit to over 200,000 users, filling a crucial market gap left by traditional lenders.

Recently, BharatX announced new partnerships with Cashfree, a prominent payment gateway, alongside existing collaborations with brands such as Flo mattress, Snitch, and Mokobara. These partnerships are part of BharatX’s ongoing efforts to explore growth opportunities and expand its market presence.

With the acquisition of Zenifi, BharatX is poised to revolutionize the healthcare finance sector by providing essential credit solutions during medical emergencies. This strategic move not only strengthens BharatX’s market position but also ensures that millions of Indians have access to affordable and timely medical care.
