Simultaneously, innovations such as Electric Vehicles (EVs), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and emerging healthcare technologies are reshaping industrial, educational, and research landscapes.

NMIMS Mumbai’s MPSTME Takes the Lead in Addressing Tech Challenges

In response to the challenges and opportunities presented by these technologies, NMIMS Mumbai’s Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTME) took the initiative to host the ‘Academic Conclave – Sensing and Data Acquisition; 5G/6G Research; Electric Vehicle Testing’ on December 22, 2023. The collaborative effort involved National Instruments (NI), VVDN Technologies, and MathWorks. Industry leaders, Mr. Priyachandar P (Country Head – Indirect, NI India), Mr. Rajat Kumar (Academic Programme Manager – India, VVDN Technologies), and Dr. Praful Pai (Manager, EECS, Signal Processing and Communications, MathWorks) were among the distinguished guests.

Addressing the Educational Implications of Technological Shifts

Prof. Dattatray Sawant, Convenor of VVDN – NI Academic Conclave, highlighted the conclave’s role in providing faculty and researchers exposure to cutting-edge tools, training, and insights into industry needs. The platform aimed to foster networking opportunities for faculties and educational institutions to establish collaborations. Additionally, the conclave encouraged higher education institutions to adapt their programs, update curricula, and stay informed about emerging technologies.

Emphasizing the Need for Specialized Courses and Collaboration

Speakers at the event emphasized the necessity for sweeping changes in engineering education to align with technological developments. They suggested introducing specialized courses, engaging faculty in projects exploring emerging technologies, and integrating curriculum with subjects focused on 5G, 6G, EV design, ADAS development, and healthcare technology. The goal is to keep students and faculty informed about the latest advancements, enhancing their teaching and research endeavors.

Mr. Priyachandar P expressed optimism about the future of EV and ADAS in India, highlighting the shifts across industries and opportunities for students. The gathering also featured discussions on potential career opportunities, suggesting various roles for engineering students in the evolving job market.
