Wheebox Unveils ‘India Skills Report 2024’: A Glimpse into AI’s Impact on Workforce Dynamics

Wheebox, a prominent player in remote proctored assessments and consulting services, has launched the ‘India Skills Report 2024.’ Under the theme, “Impact of AI on the Future of Work, Skilling & Mobility,”. The report sheds light on the transformative influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the nation’s workforce. Based on the extensive Wheebox National Employability Test (WNET) with 3.88 lakh participants and insights from 152 corporations, the eleventh edition brings forth key highlights that underscore India’s leadership in the AI domain.

India’s Robust AI Talent Base and Projected Demand

The report reveals that India stands at the forefront globally in AI skill penetration and talent concentration, earning a commendable score of 3.09. With an installed talent base of 416K AI professionals as of August 2023, the nation is well-poised to meet the current demand of approximately 629K, a figure expected to surge to 1 million by 2026.

Nuanced Trends in Young Employability

The WNET employability survey within the India Skills Report 2024 unveils nuanced trends and demographic transformations among the nation’s employable youth. Overall young employability in India has improved to 51.25%, with Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana boasting the highest concentration of highly employable youth. Haryana leads the pack with 76.47% of test takers scoring 60% and above on the WNET. In the age range of 22 to 25 years, Uttar Pradesh stands out with the highest talent concentration at 74.77%, closely followed by Maharashtra at 71.97%. The overall employability rate within this age group across the top 10 cities is 63.58%, showcasing regional variations and demographic factors influencing the employability landscape in India.

Insights from Wheebox’s Chief Convenor on India’s AI Landscape

Mr. Nirmal Singh, Chief Convenor of India Skills Report and Founder and CEO of Wheebox, expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that contributed to this insightful exploration of India’s AI landscape. Speaking on the significance of AI in the India Skills Report 2024, Sachin Jain, Country Manager ETS India and South Asia, highlighted the rapid evolution of technology and the role of AI in learning science. Devashish Sharma, CEO at Taggd, ISR’s knowledge partner, predicted increased investments in upskilling initiatives by companies in 2024, with a focus on early careers programs.
