In a recent announcement, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, revealed the company’s plan to retire its iconic blue bird logo and rebrand the platform as X.com. The move is aimed at giving the social media giant a new and refreshed identity. Musk hinted at bidding farewell not only to the Twitter brand but also to its bird-themed elements in a tweet.
CEO Linda Yaccarino, expressing her excitement, unveiled the new Twitter logo in a post on Monday, stating “X is here! Let’s do this.” She shared another post with the caption “Lights. Camera. X!” displaying the X logo on their headquarters building.
Yaccarino sees the decision to rebrand Twitter as an opportunity for a “second chance” to further transform the global town square, building upon the platform’s significant impact on communication worldwide.
Musk promised that if a compelling X logo was shared on Twitter, the rebranding would go live worldwide on Monday, July 24, adding an interactive element to the announcement and encouraging user participation in shaping the new identity.
Twitter Inc. was officially renamed to X Corp. in the State of Nevada, with its headquarters remaining in San Francisco, California.
Since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion, significant changes have been implemented, including leadership team overhauls, dissolution of the board of directors, and substantial workforce downsizing. Musk’s controversial views on free speech contributed to a decline in advertising revenue.
Under Musk’s leadership, the focus has shifted to increase subscription revenue through Twitter Blue, a paid service offering benefits like a “verified” blue-check mark, which was previously limited to celebrities. Additionally, the company now shares ad revenue with certain creators, making Twitter Blue subscribers eligible for payments.
