Samsung is reportedly working on its latest wearable device, the ‘Galaxy Ring,’ a smart ring that offers advanced health monitoring features. The company has already trademarked ‘Galaxy Ring’ and is collaborating with Japan’s Meiko for key component development.
The Galaxy Ring aims to provide improved body information measurement accuracy compared to popular smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch. It will feature various sensors to collect body and health data, which users can access through a smartphone app for monitoring purposes.
While the development of the Galaxy Ring is ongoing, the timing for mass production remains uncertain. Samsung may proceed with preliminary development and create a prototype to gauge user response and scalability before deciding on mass production.
The smart ring’s snug fit on the finger is expected to reduce measurement errors, especially for sleep and health-related information, outperforming traditional smartwatches in data accuracy.
In addition to the Galaxy Ring, Samsung Electronics is also reportedly seeking a patent for a smart ring that works with extended reality (XR) devices, showcasing the company’s commitment to exploring innovative technologies.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has reportedly postponed initial production of XR headsets to around June next year due to Apple Vision Pro’s superior OLED on Silicon display specifications.
