Google has officially released the stable version of Nearby Share for Windows devices, following its earlier beta launch this year, which garnered significant popularity with around 1.7 million installations. The feature enables seamless file transfers between nearby devices using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and is already available on Android devices.
For Windows users, Nearby Share is compatible with devices featuring a 64-bit processor, while ARM-powered Windows systems are not supported currently. Existing app users can continue using Nearby Share without any interruptions, while new users can download the app on their Windows PC by following Google’s provided link. This feature facilitates effortless file sharing between compatible devices in close proximity, enhancing overall user convenience and productivity.
With the latest stable version of Nearby Share, users can easily share a variety of files and folders between Windows and Android devices, including photos, videos, documents, and audio files. Similar to AirDrop on Apple devices, Nearby Share allows users to select who can share files with them, offering options such as everyone, contacts, their devices, or no one, ensuring privacy and control.
Moreover, Google has introduced two new features to further enhance the user experience. Users can now view the estimated time for file transfers to complete once sharing begins, helping them manage their tasks efficiently. Additionally, Nearby Share offers an image preview of the file being shared as the transfer commences, providing users with a quick preview of the content being sent. Despite their seemingly small nature, these new features contribute significantly to user convenience during file sharing activities.
