WhatsApp is considering expanding the number of options available to users for the duration of disappearing messages. The WhatsApp desktop beta client has already shown an updated version of this feature, and additional durations are being developed for the mobile app.
Currently, WhatsApp users can only choose from three options for the duration of disappearing messages, which are 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days. This limited number of choices may not provide enough flexibility for users to personalize their privacy settings.
The beta version of the WhatsApp desktop app now provides users with 15 durations for disappearing messages, including the existing ones. The new durations include 1, 3, 6, and 12 hours; 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 14, 21, 30, 60, 180 days, and one full year. This update significantly increases the level of control that WhatsApp users have over their privacy.
It is currently unknown when this feature will be released in public builds of WhatsApp. However, when these additional durations for disappearing messages become available, they are expected to be released simultaneously for both desktop and mobile versions of the app.
