WhatsApp continues to enhance its user experience with a new feature in the pipeline. The latest beta update, version 2.23.26.18 for WhatsApp on Android, reveals an upcoming music and audio-sharing feature during video calls.
This innovative feature is currently in development, and users can access it by downloading the beta version from the Google Play Store, as reported by WABetaInfo. Once implemented, this addition will significantly broaden the scope of video calling on WhatsApp, introducing a unique element similar to Apple’s SharePlay feature in FaceTime for iPhone and Mac users.
When this feature is activated during a video call screen-sharing session, participants will have the ability to collectively listen to the music or audio playing on the device of the user sharing their screen. This offers a more immersive and shared experience, especially during moments when users wish to enjoy music together while communicating.
In the initial stages of the feature’s rollout, users can expect a pop-up notification within the WhatsApp app when engaging in screen sharing. This pop-up will seek permission to allow all call participants to listen to the shared device audio. It’s worth noting that this functionality is exclusive to situations where screen sharing is active and won’t operate during regular voice calls.
While the Music and Audio-Sharing feature are still unfolding, it is anticipated that WhatsApp will incorporate options for users to control the audio-sharing aspect. This could include the ability to mute or stop audio sharing even when screen sharing is ongoing, offering users greater flexibility and control over their audio experience.
