Truecaller, a popular caller identification app, has introduced a call recording feature powered by AI for both iPhone and Android users. Initially launched in the United States for premium users, the feature will gradually roll out in different parts of the world in the coming months, according to the company.
The call recording feature not only captures both sides of the conversation but also provides summarized transcriptions of all recorded calls, converting them into easily navigable text. Each transcription is accompanied by a brief subject line, enabling quick and accurate searches within the transcriptions using Large Language Model (LLM) technology.
So, how does this feature work?
To record a call with Truecaller:
- Merge the special recording line provided by the app with the call you want to record.
- After the call ends, you’ll receive a push notification containing the recorded file.
For outgoing calls, the process is slightly different:
- Open the Truecaller app.
- Tap the “Record a Call” button.
- Press “Call the Recording Line” and merge the calls.
You can easily manage your recordings by:
- Listening to them.
- Renaming them.
- Sharing them.
- Deleting them.
All recordings are stored locally on your device, ensuring privacy.
Additional features planned for the future include:
- AI-generated summaries of the recordings.
- Brief call titles.
For iPhone users:
- Back up all recordings to iCloud storage.
For Android users:
- Choose to back up recordings to Google Drive.
Truecaller’s call recording feature with AI-powered transcription and search capabilities provides a convenient way to capture, store, and manage call recordings while prioritizing privacy and data control.
