The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has once again extended the last date for stakeholders to submit comments and counter-comments on the “Review of Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting and Cable services” consultation paper. The initial deadline for comments was set for September 5, 2023, and counter-comments were originally due by September 19, 2023. However, due to numerous requests from stakeholders, the regulatory body has decided to extend these dates to ensure that all voices are heard.
The process began on August 8, 2023, when TRAI released its consultation paper, inviting input from industry players, experts, and the public on the proposed changes to the regulatory framework governing broadcasting and cable services in India.
The first extension, up to September 19, 2023, for comments and October 3, 2023, for counter-comments, was granted in response to multiple requests from stakeholders who sought more time to carefully review and provide their input on the complex and wide-ranging issues raised in the consultation paper.
However, recognizing the continued interest and need for a thorough review, TRAI has decided to extend the deadline once again. Stakeholders will now have until October 10, 2023, to submit their comments and until October 25, 2023, to provide counter-comments. It’s important to note that TRAI has stated that no further extensions will be entertained after this date, so interested parties are encouraged to submit their views within the current timeline.
Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their comments and counter-comments electronically to the email addresses advbcs-2@trai.gov.in and jtadvbcs-1@trai.gov.in for convenience and efficiency.
The “Review of Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting and Cable services” consultation paper covers a wide range of issues related to the broadcasting and cable services sector, including content regulation, licensing, pricing, and consumer protection. The input received from stakeholders will play a crucial role in shaping the future regulatory framework for the industry.
TRAI remains committed to ensuring that the regulatory framework aligns with the evolving needs and dynamics of the broadcasting and cable services sector, and the extension of the comment and counter-comment deadlines reflects the authority’s dedication to inclusivity and comprehensive stakeholder engagement in this important process.
