The first closed beta test of the new Android 13 update for the Nothing Phone 1 has begun, and the open beta will launch in two weeks.

Carl Pei, CEO of the company behind the Nothing Phone 1, hinted that the closed beta testing phase for the device’s upcoming Android 13 update will begin later in the day. In two weeks, we’ll launch the public beta testing phase. Pei hinted at the release of Nothing OS 1.5.0 earlier this month, which is an Android 13 update for the Nothing 1 Phone. A few days ago, the Nothing OS 1.1.7 upgrade began rolling out to the Nothing Phone 1. The current version added the Android security patch for the month of November 2022 in addition to fixing some bugs and making some minor enhancements. 

In a recent tweet, Carl Pei announced that the Nothing Phone 1 Android 13 closed beta testing would begin . The Open Beta upgrade for the smartphone will be released within the next two weeks. 

CEO Carl Pei had hinted earlier this month that the Nothing Phone 1 will be receiving the Android 13 update. A photo of the About section on his Nothing Phone 1, which was reportedly running Android 13, was uploaded to his post. Since the Nothing Phone 1 uses a nearly stock build of Android, the latest Android 13–based Nothing OS upgrade should enhance performance and introduce some new capabilities. 

Updates to Nothing OS 1.1.7 have recently begun rolling out to Phone 1 customers. The Android security patch for November 2022 was implemented alongside bug fixes as well as other minor enhancements in this update. Before this, Imint announced that they will be working with Nothing to enhance video stabilization. Manufacturer located in London was also among the first to offer Jio True 5G support via over-the-air software updates to Indian customers. 

India was the first market to receive the Nothing Phone 1, the first phone from the London-based startup. The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model costs Rs. 32,999 in India, while the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model costs Rs. The Android 12-based Nothing OS and 6.55-inch full-HD+ OLED display smartphone supports twin nano SIM cards. The smartphone has an optionally installed 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC.
