Telecom Department Helps To Educate The Mobile Handset Service Providers And Makers For Smooth Transitions On 5G Upgrades

With the debut of 5G services earlier this month, the govt has called for a conference of handset makers and telecommunication services providers this coming Wednesday to ensure a seamless transition to the new technology.

While 5G has been introduced, sources have stated that current mobile phones in India are not compatible with the latest tech & require software updates.

Sources say that mobile phone companies including Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Samsung (KS: 005930), and others would likely be urged to advocate for over-the-air (OTA) upgrades for 5G handsets during a meeting scheduled on Wednesday by Secretaries of telecom & IT departments.

Early adoption of 5G in India might be achieved through prioritizing software upgrade, according to further sources.

At the meeting on October 12, participants will discuss ways to make mobile devices 5G-ready in anticipation of the rollout of 5G services in the country.
