SUN Mobility, a leading provider of energy infrastructure and services for electric vehicles (EVs), has announced a strategic collaboration and joint venture with IndianOil, a diversified and integrated energy major. This partnership aims to establish and deploy one of the largest battery swapping infrastructure networks by 2030.
Ambitious Expansion Plans
The joint venture plans to scale up to over 10,000 battery swapping stations across more than 40 cities within the next three years. This extensive network will facilitate the seamless adoption of electric mobility for two-wheelers (2W), three-wheelers (3W), and small four-wheelers (4W) by providing a convenient “Battery as a Service” (BaaS) mobility solution.
Current Achievements and Future Goals
Currently, SUN Mobility supports more than 25,000 electric vehicles in India across 20 cities, utilizing over 630 stations and 50,000+ smart batteries. These stations clock over a million battery swaps per month, catering to various two- and three-wheeler customers. The strategic joint venture will leverage IndianOil’s vast network of over 37,000 fuel stations across the country, combining it with SUN Mobility’s advanced battery swapping technology. This integration aims to make battery swapping as accessible as conventional fuel stations, significantly enhancing the EV experience for customers.
Enhancing EV Adoption Nationwide
By offering the Battery as a Service (BaaS) model nationwide, this partnership aims to alleviate common concerns related to battery cost, maintenance, replacement, and charging time. This initiative is expected to streamline the customer’s EV experience, driving widespread adoption of electric vehicles across India.
