In a significant move that is set to reshape India’s agricultural landscape, Sohan Lal Commodity Management (SLCM) Group, the country’s largest post-harvest agri logistics player and warehouse service provider, has unveiled the “Krishi Quality Janch Kendra,” a revolutionary AI ML empowered solution for food grain quality checks. This landmark initiative aims to streamline and digitize the quality check process for farmers, traders, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and corporate entities, marking a defining step in India’s agri ecosystem.
A New Horizon in Quality Check: 31 Centers Across Delhi and Madhya Pradesh
In the initial phase, SLCM has opened 31 Krishi Quality Janch Kendra centers across Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, a move that is particularly noteworthy considering the limited number of food grain testing centers established in India since its independence. This expansion aims to ease the burden on farmers, traders, and other stakeholders who traditionally face challenges in accessing quality testing facilities. Looking ahead, SLCM plans to establish an additional 600 Krishi Quality Janch Kendra centers across different parts of the country by the end of February 2024.
Integration of Physical and Digital: A Game-Changer for Agri Ecosystem
The Krishi Quality Janch Kendra is an extension of SLCM’s flagship Agri Reach QC module, an AI ML-driven application, and represents the first-ever NABL-accredited food grain QC mobile app. This move is part of SLCM’s commitment to creating a cohesive digital platform that encompasses quality checks, warehousing management solutions, agri ecosystem listings, and a third-party platform facilitating transactions between commodity buyers and sellers.
Sandeep Sabharwal, Founder and CEO of SLCM, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “We are moving towards a new era, ensuring fair price for the farmers as well as food security of the nation. There are just 161 State Seed Testing Laboratories and six Central Seed Testing Laboratories in India. For farmers and traders, a quality check of the crop/grains entails travelling long distance, spending hours at the centres, and spending huge amounts in the process. We understand the technological barriers for our farmers, and hence centres such as Krishi Quality Janch Kendra at major marketplaces are designed to maximise the benefits for all and eventually foster a transformation in the Indian agri industry.”
Facilitated Quality Checks in Minutes: Empowering Farmers and Traders with Krishi Quality Janch Kendra
At the newly-introduced Krishi Quality Janch Kendra centers, facilitators will enable quick scans and generate quality check reports for grains within 1 to 4 minutes. The initiative also aims to educate traders and farmers about the Agri Reach app for future quality checks. These centers have been strategically placed in key marketplaces in South and West Delhi, as well as Ujjain, Indore, and Mandsaur regions of Madhya Pradesh.
The innovative system allows center heads to generate NABL-accredited quality check reports, offering accurate and trustworthy testing with reduced turnaround time. This not only saves time and money for stakeholders but also transforms the valuation process of crops by buyers, directly correlating the value with the quality of the produce. The system empowers farmers to understand the true value of their produce, ensuring they receive the best prices.
Expanding Access: From Local Markets to Across the Country
While the initial phase targets key marketplaces, the next phase of SLCM’s initiative will roll out over 600 Krishi Quality Janch Kendra centers across 200 locations, covering the length and breadth of India. This expansion aims to democratize access to quality testing facilities, empowering the entire agricultural community to benefit from this groundbreaking technology.
