Sify Technologies (Sify), a leading digital ICT solutions provider, has successfully doubled its National Long Distance (NLD) network capacity by deploying advanced optical technology from Ciena (NYSE: CIEN). This major upgrade links seven of Sify’s Metro Area Networks (MANs) across India, with a focus on enhancing connectivity between key data center hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida. The network now supports services up to 600G, providing faster, more reliable data transmission for enterprises, cloud providers, and AI applications.
Enhancing India’s Digital Infrastructure
India is undergoing rapid digitization, with increasing bandwidth demands driven by cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Sify’s enhanced NLD network, powered by Ciena’s optical technology, is designed to meet this growing demand. Starting with an express path between Mumbai and New Delhi, this upgrade interconnects Sify’s major AI-ready data center hubs, supporting seamless digital transformation for businesses across India.
“India is embracing digitization with bandwidth demand skyrocketing from global cloud providers and digital enterprises. Using Ciena’s optical technology, we’ve doubled our network capacity to 600G,” said Harsha Ram, Head of Network Business at Sify. The upgraded network is expected to offer ultra-low latency connectivity, optimizing support for next-gen AI applications, cloud services, and enterprise solutions.
Leveraging Ciena’s Optical Technology
To deliver this robust upgrade, Sify is utilizing Ciena’s 6500 Reconfigurable Line System and Waveserver 5, both powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optics. This cutting-edge technology enables Sify to provide higher capacity and scalability over long distances. With the ability to support both C and L band transponders, Sify’s customers will benefit from greater network efficiency and expanded bandwidth availability.

Optimized Network Management with Ciena Services
In addition to the hardware upgrade, Sify has integrated Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite (Navigator NCS), which enables real-time software control and visibility of the network. This integration includes the use of PlannerPlus, part of Navigator Intelligent Apps, which simplifies network expansion and enhances efficiency. Ciena Services provided consulting to ensure the deployment was optimized, while Ciena’s Maintenance Service guarantees end-to-end network support.
