In India’s dynamic telecom landscape, Reliance Jio has emerged as a leading contender in the race for 5G dominance, boasting swift deployment and superior performance, as per recent Ookla data. According to the Department of Telecom, as of Feb 29, 2024, India has witnessed the installation of 4.25 lakh BTS, with nearly 80% attributed to Reliance Jio.
Reliance Jio, in tandem with Bharti Airtel, has made significant investments in expanding 5G networks nationwide. Their endeavors have yielded remarkable results, with India experiencing a notable surge in 5G availability, rising from 28.1% in Q1 2023 to an impressive 52.0% by Q4 2023. Reliance Jio’s proactive implementation of a 5G Standalone (5G SA) network from the outset has solidified its position as a frontrunner in next-generation connectivity.
Jio’s extensive 5G coverage is evident from its availability rate, soaring to 68.8% during Q4 2023, surpassing its competitor Airtel, which stood at 30.3%. This broad coverage, facilitated by a blend of low-band (700 MHz) and mid-band (3.5 GHz) spectrum, along with a robust fiber network, enables Reliance Jio to deliver a seamless combination of coverage and performance to its subscribers.
Despite the inherent complexities in network performance, consumer sentiment toward 5G remains overwhelmingly positive. Reliance Jio’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) for its 5G service reflects this optimism, registering at 7.4 in Q4 2023. This upward trend in NPS underscores consumers’ satisfaction with the enhanced performance and reliability offered by Reliance Jio’s 5G network.
India now ranks among the top 15 countries globally in terms of 5G median download speeds. With a median download speed of 301.86 Mbps in Q4 2023, the country firmly establishes itself on the global map of nations with advanced 5G infrastructure.
