Qualcomm, known for its groundbreaking mobile technologies, has announced a game-changing addition to the PC world the Snapdragon X Elite, a new PC chipset powered by Nuvia-designed Oryon cores, is set to challenge the dominance of x86 Intel and AMD processors and compete head-to-head with Apple’s M-series chips. This marks a significant milestone, as it’s the first time Qualcomm has introduced Oryon cores to PCs, signaling a pivotal moment in the evolution of computing.
Snapdragon X Elite Features:
The Snapdragon X Elite is packed with impressive components, including new Oryon cores designed by Qualcomm’s in-house Nuvia team. With 12 high-performance cores and a 4nm process node from TSMC, this chipset offers a top clock speed of 3.8GHz across all cores, with the capability to boost two cores to 4.3GHz for demanding tasks. Its tri-cluster design neatly arranges four cores into three tiles.
What makes the Snapdragon X Elite truly stand out is its whopping 42MB of total cache, ensuring lightning-fast performance. Access to eight channels of LPDDR5X memory, with a bandwidth of 136GBps, further enhances its capabilities. The Adreno GPU integrated into the Snapdragon X Elite is equally impressive. It offers double the GPU performance of an equivalent x86 integrated GPU in the 3DMark WildLife Stress test, all while matching peak performance at just one-fourth of the power. Compared to leading x86 integrated GPUs, the Adreno GPU outperforms by 80%, while consuming only one-fifth of the power.
The Adreno GPU can handle 4.6 TFLOPS, support an internal 4K display running at 120Hz, and even output to triple 4K screens or dual 5K screens. Moreover, it features upgradeable drivers and industry collaboration for extended support.
The AI unit on the Snapdragon X Elite boasts a formidable Hexagon NPU engine, capable of performing 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) and running LLMs with 13 billion parameters. This chipset can generate 30 tokens per second with a 7 billion LLM model. A significant innovation is the introduction of the Qualcomm always-sensing hub for Windows PCs, enabling rapid processing of AI tasks such as noise cancellation, presence detection, and voice chat.
Additionally, manufacturers can pair the Snapdragon X Elite with the Snapdragon X65 5G modem to create always-on, always-connected laptops. This combination also brings support for lossless audio, Wi-Fi 7, Microsoft Pluton for enhanced security, and seamless integration with smartphones.

Qualcomm has revealed that the Snapdragon X Elite platform will make its debut in Windows laptops in mid-2024, with major partners such as Dell, Lenovo, Microsoft, and others leading the charge.
