As India accelerates its journey toward achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electric power capacity by 2030, the renewable energy sector is set to generate more than 1.8 million new jobs. Recognizing this growing demand for skilled professionals, the Centre of Renewable Energy (CORE) Academy of The POWERCON Group has introduced seven specialized Renewable Energy (RE) courses at Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) — the world’s fifth-largest open university. Through this strategic collaboration, CORE Academy aims to train and upskill 20,000 students by 2026, significantly contributing to India’s expanding green energy workforce.
Building a Future-Ready Green Workforce
CORE Academy’s curriculum is designed to empower students and professionals with hands-on expertise across crucial renewable domains, including Wind Energy, Solar PV Systems, Energy Storage, Pumped Hydro Storage, and Electrical Safety. The launch of Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma programs in Wind, Solar, and Safety in Renewable Energy at YCMOU marks a transformative step toward democratizing access to clean energy education. The programs integrate academic rigor with practical industry exposure to develop “RE Commandos”—a new generation of professionals ready to meet the evolving needs of India’s energy transition.
Industry-Driven Curriculum Aligned with National Standards
All programs are aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Developed in-house by POWERCON’s industry experts, the curriculum reflects the company’s extensive operational expertise and global best practices in renewable energy management. These courses cater to students, working professionals, and individuals seeking certification in renewable technologies, offering flexible durations ranging from three months to one year to suit diverse learning needs.
Expanding Access and Employability
With a proven record of success, CORE Academy has already trained over 6,000 students and facilitated placements across 25 leading renewable energy companies. The collaboration with YCMOU amplifies this impact by extending RE education to a broader learner base, ensuring large-scale access to career-oriented, industry-relevant training.
Leadership Quote

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Praveen Kakulte, CEO of The POWERCON Group, said, “We experienced a critical gap between what the RE industry needed and what training institutions delivered. So, CORE Academy was born to create programs designed by practicing engineers, not just educators. Today, we are proud to see our approach shaping professionals who are technically skilled, adaptable, and ready to thrive in a fast-evolving global RE industry.”
By bridging the skill gap in India’s renewable energy ecosystem, the initiative underscores POWERCON’s commitment to empowering youth, fostering sustainability, and supporting the nation’s ambitious clean energy goals through education and innovation.
