MoU signed between Lightstorm and Gujarat Government

The Gujarat IT/ITeS Policy has been released by the state government (2022-27). Accelerating digital innovation in the state, the Gujarat IT/ITeS Policy (2022-27) is now ready to equip small and medium businesses with the tools they need to realize the benefits of digitization and boost the Gujarati economy. 

In addition, the Hon’ble Minister for DST, Jitubhai Vaghani’s unwavering commitment to job creation and skill development has resulted in novel and enabling incentives like the Employment Generation Incentive (EGI) as well as the Atmanirbhar Gujarat Sahay Yojana. A first in the history of Indian government policies encouraging investment in information technology, the Policy also offers the novel concept of a capital expenditure/operating expenditure (CAPEX/OPEX) model. 

Investors have begun taking the first steps toward working with the Government of Gujarat after the Policy gained widespread attention in the IT industry. The State Government of Gujarat has signed memorandums of understanding with sixteen of the most prominent domestic and international IT firms in the first seven months after the Policy’s introduction, resulting in the creation of about 28,750 highly skilled IT jobs. These remarkable outcomes are evidence of Gujarat’s foresight and dedication to the growth of the IT/ITeS industry. 

Over the course of South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, Lightstorm is constructing the infrastructure necessary for hyperscale networking of Clouds & Data Centers. Lightstorm’s SmartNet is a durable fiber network built for utilities that links 50+ data centers around the country to boost economic development and innovation in the information economy. To help businesses find innovative ways to stand out from the crowd, Lightstorm is building a solid digital platform on which to build. 

Lightstorm plans to build a Submarine Cable Landing Station (CLS) & two data centers (DCs) in Gujarat with a combined power of two megawatts (MW). This investment is likely to bring many advantages to the State of Gujarat. 

  • The availability of global Internet bandwidth & accompanying computing infrastructure improves digital competitiveness. 
  • Third-party expansion of data centers and other forms of information technology following the laying of international submarine cables 
  • Lightstorm Telecom has invested over INR 1 trillion into the Indian economy by providing ultra-low latency connectivity to the BFSI infrastructure in GIFT City, which has increased trading volumes through the city’s stock exchanges. 
  • GETCO has a direct contract for fiber optic segments worth around $100 million over a 15-year IRU. 
  • Approximately 2000 new directly and indirectly highly skilled employment will be created. 

Lightstorm plans to invest over Rs. 1,000 crore over the next five years to expand its operations and create over 2,000 new IT jobs, further promoting Gujarat as another emerging IT hub. This is in keeping with the company’s ongoing dedication to the growth of the IT/ITeS sector. 

As such, on October 28, 2022, under the ambit of the Gujarat IT/ITeS 2022-27 Policy, CEO of Lightstorm Amajit Gupta & Secretary, of Department of Science & Technology Vijay Nehra, IAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to forge a strategic partnership and advance the development of Gujarat’s IT ecosystem in the appearance of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Bhai Patel.
