Microsoft, the technology giant, has announced that it will be raising the prices of its latest gaming console, the Xbox Series X, as well as its gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass.
The price of the Xbox Series X will be increased by $50, going from $499 to $549. However, the pricing for the Xbox Series S will remain the same across all markets. In addition, Microsoft has recently unveiled a new black model of the Xbox Series S with 1TB storage, priced at $349.
Alongside the price increase for the new generation of gaming consoles, Microsoft is also raising the price of Xbox Game Pass. The standard plan will go up from $10 per month to $12 per month, while the Ultimate plan will increase from $15 per month to $18 per month.
Microsoft has stated that these price adjustments are necessary to continue investing in the “best gaming experiences.” The company has also mentioned that it will offer various ways for customers to save money on Xbox Game Pass, including a yearly subscription option and a family plan.
The new prices will come into effect on July 6th for new customers. However, existing monthly subscribers will not be affected by the change until August 13th. Customers on the yearly subscription of Xbox Game Pass will continue to enjoy the service without any impact until they renew their subscription.
This move by Microsoft is not surprising, considering that Sony increased the pricing for its PlayStation 5 last year.
