MediaTek has officially launched the Dimensity 9400, its latest flagship smartphone chipset, designed to power cutting-edge AI applications, immersive gaming experiences, and high-quality photography. This fourth-generation SoC delivers remarkable performance improvements and unprecedented power efficiency, making it a cornerstone for next-generation mobile devices.
Dimensity 9400
The Dimensity 9400 features MediaTek’s second-generation All Big Core design, built on Arm’s v9.2 CPU architecture. The SoC includes an Arm Cortex-X925 core clocked at over 3.62GHz, paired with 3x Cortex-X4 cores and 4x Cortex-A720 cores. Compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, this chipset offers a 35% boost in single-core performance. Additionally, 28% faster multi-core performance makes it one of the most powerful chipsets on the market.
Built on TSMC’s second-gen 3nm process, the Dimensity 9400 is 40% more power-efficient, allowing users to experience improved battery life without compromising on performance.
AI and Generative AI: Leading the Way
The Dimensity 9400 introduces MediaTek’s 8th Generation NPU, offering breakthrough capabilities in Generative AI and agentic AI applications. It is the first mobile chipset to offer on-device LoRA training and high-quality on-device video generation, setting a new standard for AI-powered smartphones. Users can expect up to 80% faster large language model (LLM) prompt performance compared to the Dimensity 9300, all while using 35% less power.
With the new Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE), the chipset is designed to evolve traditional AI into more sophisticated, agentic applications. This engine offers seamless integration with third-party APKs, edge AI, and cloud services, paving the way for a new ecosystem of AI-driven mobile experiences.
Enhanced Gaming with Arm Immortalis-G925
Gaming on the Dimensity 9400 is taken to new heights with the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, delivering a 40% boost in raytracing performance. The chipset also features opacity micromaps (OMM) support, bringing PC-level graphics to mobile devices. Gamers can expect 44% power savings and 41% higher peak performance compared to the previous generation. This will ensure longer gaming sessions with better visual quality.
Superior Photography and Video Capture
The MediaTek Imagiq 1090 image signal processor (ISP) enables HDR video recording throughout the zoom range, while the Smooth Zoom feature makes it easy to capture moving subjects. The Dimensity 9400 also delivers 14% lower power consumption during 4K60 video capture, providing superior energy efficiency for photography enthusiasts.
Cutting-Edge Connectivity and Additional Features
The Dimensity 9400 is packed with advanced connectivity features, including:
- A 3GPP Release-17 5G modem with 4CC-CA and 7Gbps sub-6GHz performance.
- A new 4nm Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip with 7.3Gbps data rates and 50% lower power consumption.
- Wi-Fi 7 tri-band MLO support and MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0 for extended Wi-Fi coverage.
- 5G/4G Dual SIM Dual Active for flexible mobile network usage.
Additionally, the chipset supports tri-fold smartphones, enabling manufacturers to explore innovative form factors for future devices.
Availability of Dimensity 9400
Smartphones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 are expected to hit the market in Q4 of 2024. They would offer consumers with cutting-edge mobile experiences powered by industry-leading technology.
