Intel, a global technology leader, has forged a groundbreaking partnership with eight prominent Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) firms and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to expedite laptop production in India. This collaborative effort, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aims to fortify the domestic laptop manufacturing industry and empower India’s technology ecosystem.
The key partners joining forces in this endeavor include Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. For some of these firms, this venture represents their inaugural foray into the domain of laptop manufacturing.
Intel’s pivotal role in this collaboration is to share its extensive industry knowledge and operational insights, contributing to the development of entry-level laptops designed and produced within India. This initiative strives to empower local manufacturers, enabling them to deliver quality, affordable laptops that cater to the diverse needs of the Indian consumer base.
The project encompasses a comprehensive approach, entailing the implementation of advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, the establishment of stringent quality control processes for laptop components, and the benchmarking of finished products. Furthermore, Intel is actively supporting ODMs through both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) processes, streamlining the manufacturing and assembly of laptops in the country.
To celebrate this milestone and foster collaboration within India’s tech ecosystem, Intel will host the India Tech Ecosystem Summit in November. The summit will serve as a platform for numerous local manufacturers to showcase an array of devices produced in India, showcasing the nation’s technological prowess.
