The newly launched Instagram Threads has achieved remarkable success, attracting nearly 100 million users within just a week of its debut, setting new industry records. Positioned as an alternative to Twitter, which has faced its share of challenges, Threads has emerged as a popular microblogging platform. However, it currently lacks certain essential features, such as DMs (Direct Messages).
Instagram Threads is now gearing up to address this limitation by introducing messaging functionality in the near future. Despite previous statements from Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri suggesting no immediate plans for DMs, a leaked document discovered by Business Insider indicates that Direct Messaging will be among the upcoming features. Additionally, the platform is working on other improvements, including a ‘Trends & Topics’ section and ‘Improved search’, all of which are based on feedback from creators.
Given the strong demand for DMs, it is likely to be one of the most requested features. As Threads falls under Meta’s umbrella, it may also support cross-platform messaging similar to Instagram, allowing users to communicate with their friends on Messenger. While this information is yet to be officially confirmed, it offers exciting prospects for the future development of Threads.
