During a post-Budget webinar titled ‘Unleashing the Potential: Ease of Living Using Technology,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his belief that technology will be instrumental in enabling India to become a developed nation by 2047, and highlighted the creation of a modern and extensive digital infrastructure to ensure that all citizens can benefit from the digital revolution. He also called for reducing compliance costs for small businesses and urged the industry to identify a list of compliances that can be trimmed.
“We want to reduce the compliance cost of small businesses. Can you (the industry) formulate a list of unnecessary compliances that can be pruned. We have finished 40,000 compliances,” Mr. Narendra Modi said.
The Prime Minister observed that India is developing a modern digital infrastructure to ensure universal access to the advantages of the digital revolution. He also remarked that technology is being employed to make the tax system faceless and to address the challenges experienced by taxpayers.
“We used technology to make the tax system faceless, and to address problems faced by taxpayers,” he said adding technology is being leveraged to usher in a qualitative difference in the lives of Indian citizens.
In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the transformative potential of technologies such as 5G and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and agriculture. He encouraged stakeholders to pinpoint ten common issues that could be solved by applying AI. The Prime Minister also highlighted the critical role of technology in the One Nation One Ration initiative and acknowledged the contribution of the JAM (Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhaar, and Mobile number) trinity in facilitating benefits to the underprivileged. Additionally, he emphasized that technology would underpin the 21st century, and it should not be limited to digital and internet technologies alone.
