Tech giant HP is taking decisive measures to enhance its supply chain resilience by diversifying its manufacturing locations. While the company plans to initiate laptop production in Thailand and Mexico this year, it remains committed to its 20,000-square-meter facility in Chongqing, China, recognizing the country’s crucial role in its supply chain.
By expanding laptop manufacturing to Vietnam next year, HP aims to reduce risks associated with centralized production and fortify its global supply chain to effectively meet consumer and commercial demands.
As the world’s second-largest PC maker by shipments, HP’s strategic move underscores its dedication to providing a stable supply of laptops and adapting to the dynamic global market. Embracing geographic diversification allows the tech company to stay at the forefront of the industry and cater to its customers’ needs worldwide.
HP remains optimistic about its business prospects in China and emphasizes its commitment to the region. The company recently announced the opening of a new research and development center in Chongqing, focused on pioneering computing innovations tailored to customer needs.
Despite market challenges, HP outperformed many competitors, experiencing only a 1% drop in shipments to 13.3 million units last quarter. Effective strategies, including selling excess inventory and increased Chromebook sales, contributed to this performance. HP secured its position as the best-performing Windows PC maker for the quarter, second only to Apple, which saw an 8% rise in shipments to 5.5 million units.
