In a surprising revelation, a new foldable phone from Google has made an appearance, tentatively named ‘Comet’, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.This discovery comes through the latest update of the Google Pixel Buds app, released shedding light on Google’s upcoming Pixel phone lineup expected this fall.
While the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, codenamed Shiba and Husky, are well-known devices in the upcoming lineup, ‘Comet’ adds an element of mystery. Notably, the codename ‘Comet’ deviates from the usual pattern of using dog breed codenames for Pixel devices. For instance, the Pixel Fold, initially codenamed ‘Passport,’ was later renamed ‘Felix’ to align with the Pixel 7 series.
What makes ‘Comet’ even more intriguing is its association with the Pixel Fold, evident in the code of the Pixel Buds app. The app refers to ‘Comet’ as a ‘fold,’ indicating its foldable nature. This raises questions about whether ‘Comet’ is an early preparation for the Pixel Fold 2 or a potential Pixel Flip, entering the realm of foldable phones to compete with industry counterparts like Samsung.
Adding to the intrigue, the Pixel 9 series is expected to use reptile-related codenames like Komodo and Caiman, further distinguishing ‘Comet’ from the conventional Pixel releases. The absence of detailed information about ‘Comet’s features leaves room for speculation, suggesting that it might not follow the usual yearly Pixel release pattern.
