Google Pay Introduces Aadhaar-based Authentication for UPI Registration

Google Pay has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to allow users to register for UPI using Aadhaar. Additionally, Google Pay has recently joined forces with NPCI to enable UPI payments using RuPay credit cards.

Simplified UPI Onboarding on Google Pay with Aadhaar Integration Google Pay has introduced a convenient feature that allows users to set up their UPI PIN without the need for a debit card. This new streamlined onboarding process, based on Aadhaar authentication, aims to enhance digital payment adoption among a larger user base in India as UPI continues to expand its services.

With the support of UIDAI data, this initiative seeks to promote financial inclusion and accessibility for adults across the country.

Requirements for Aadhaar-Based UPI Onboarding To utilize the Aadhaar-based UPI onboarding feature, users must ensure that the phone number registered with UIDAI matches their bank’s records. Additionally, their bank account must be linked with Aadhaar. Meeting these prerequisites is essential to proceed with the onboarding process.

To ensure the security and privacy of users’ Aadhaar numbers, when entering the first six digits of their Aadhaar number, Google Pay securely sends the information to UIDAI through NPCI for validation. Google Pay serves as a facilitator in sharing the Aadhaar number with NPCI for validation purposes and does not store the Aadhaar number on its platform.

Once the onboarding process is successfully completed, customers can conveniently utilize the Google Pay app for transactions and balance inquiries.

Availability
