Facebook’s millions of active user (MAU) count in South Korea has dropped by more than 25 percent over the previous 2 years according to a survey that examined the sector and was released on Friday.
As per Mobile Index, the data management unit of local data tracker IGAworks, the South Korean MAU tally for Facebook (operated by Meta) reached 11.09 million as of the previous month, particularly in comparison with 14.87 million in May 2020, when the company started compiling related data. This is a decrease from the 14.87 million MAUs that was recorded in May 2020.
The data used for the tabulation came from the smartphone app shops operated by Apple and Google.
According to Yonhap news agency, the figure for July reflects a decrease of 17 percent year-over-year from 13.34 million.
The constant drop in the number of young people using Facebook in South Korea is mostly responsible for the decreasing trend.
As per the Korea Information And communication technology Institute Of development studies, the Facebook usage rate among people aged 25 to 38 in 2021 was registered at 27 percent, which is a considerable drop from the 48.6 percent annual rate recorded in 2017.
According to a source from the business, “many users in their twenties and thirties have shifted their attention to Instagram,” and “complaints over online ads on Facebook similarly seem to have increased.”
A new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center of American teenagers (ages 13 to 17) disclosed a worrying trend for Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook last week. According to the findings of the survey, the percentage of American teenagers who use the platform for social media has decreased from 71% in 2014-2015 to 32% as of now.
The popularity of the short-form video network TikTok, which is based in China, has skyrocketed, and it is now considered one of the most important social media platforms for adolescents alongside Instagram, Facebook, & Snapchat.
Approximately 67% of teenagers have admitted to having used TikTok at least once, with 16% of all adolescents claiming to use the app on an almost regular basis.
