eVidyaloka, a leader in transforming rural education, joined forces with KPMG in India to launch a virtual employee volunteering initiative aimed at promoting cyber awareness among students in rural government schools. This collaboration seeks to bridge the digital literacy gap by equipping students with essential skills to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.
Empowering Students Across 12 States
The month-long initiative targeted students in grades 7, 8, and 9, reaching 309 schools across 12 states: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. Through eVidyaloka’s digital classroom platform, 131 employees from KPMG in India conducted interactive sessions, benefiting over 8,000 children.
Addressing Cyber Threats in Rural Areas
The initiative focused on critical topics such as identifying cybercrimes, understanding online risks, and adopting protective measures. With internet penetration increasing in rural India, these sessions aimed to safeguard young learners from vulnerabilities they might face online.
Simplifying Digital Safety Concepts
KPMG in India’s volunteers simplified complex topics into practical safety measures, such as avoiding harmful links, recognizing scams, and safeguarding personal information. For many students, this marked their first structured exposure to responsible online practices, empowering them to see the internet as a gateway to opportunities rather than risks.
Voices of Leadership
Ira Gupta Tuteja, Corporate Citizenship Lead at KPMG in India, emphasized the importance of digital literacy: “Empowering the next generation with the tools to navigate the digital world safely is crucial for building a resilient and informed society. Our partnership with eVidyaloka helps rural students to experience the benefits of the digital age. By equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to make informed online decisions, we’re helping unlock new opportunities for their future.”
Brinda, CEO of eVidyaloka, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative: “We believe that true digital empowerment demands both awareness and education. This partnership with KPMG in India has not only equipped young minds with critical skills to navigate the online world safely but has also demonstrated the profound impact of collective effort.”
A Model for Corporate-Social Collaboration
This initiative underscores the transformative power of collaboration between corporate and social organizations. By combining KPMG in India’s expertise with eVidyaloka’s reach, the program is nurturing a digitally confident generation, empowering rural students to use the internet as a tool for growth and opportunity.
