Speakers at the 2nd Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Talent Summit emphasized the profound influence of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies on the future of education. The two-day event, themed “Delving into Digital Talent Development in the Smart Era,” brought together about 600 attendees, including educational and industry leaders, ministers, government officials, and student winners of talent programs.
Organized by UNESCO, Huawei, the Government of Colombia, German Development Cooperation (GIZ), and Agencia EFE, the summit focused on challenges and best practices in digital talent development, policymaking, and efforts to bridge gaps across genders and in isolated communities. Limited access to educational resources, qualified educators, and infrastructure impedes digital skill development, particularly in marginalized or rural areas, according to UNESCO research.
Claudia Uribe, Director of the UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office in Santiago said, “There is no doubt that the technology industry has an extraordinary potential for growth in Latin America and the Caribbean and to benefit the region with innovative solutions for many of the challenges it faces.”
Andrés Calle, President of the House of Representatives, Congress of Colombia, emphasized Colombia’s aspiration to become a leader in innovation and digital talent development. He said, “Colombia must aspire to become a leader in innovation and the development of digital talent, and to achieve this we cannot do it alone and that’s why we are here. It is crucial to promote the creation of innovation ecosystems that facilitate collaboration between entrepreneurs, startups and consolidated companies. This will foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences, fostering an environment conducive to creativity and the generation of innovative solutions.”
Jeff Wang, President of the Public Affairs and Communications Department of Huawei quoted, “Digital talent is an essential part of our vision. We rely on and cherish the young talent, their creative thinking and innovation, in particular, to achieve that vision. As both an employer and an important party in developing the digital talent pool, we have a commitment to grooming the young talent of the future,”
Huawei’s partnerships with over 450 local universities and colleges through the Huawei ICT Academy program aim to offer capacity building to education institutions. The company has also organized Global ICT Competitions, with student teams from Latin America reaching the Global Finals in Shenzhen. Huawei and UNESCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the event, signaling their commitment to cooperation on ICT talents in the region.
The summit concluded with a vision of expanding into new regions, adding advanced features, and investing in AI and deep tech for personalized experiences to simplify decision-making for car and bike owners. CarInfo aims to empower users through technological advancements, focusing on seamless, secure, and one-click transactions. Growth in the EV sector, particularly in two-wheelers, is a key focus, aligning with CarInfo’s commitment to user empowerment.
