BorgWarner has announced its partnership with SAIC Maxus to supply locally developed and manufactured transfer cases, further strengthening their decade-long relationship. The collaboration will see BorgWarner providing two advanced transfer case models: an on-demand transfer case with mechanical locking and a high-torque part-time transfer case, with mass production set to begin in Q3 2026.
Enhancing SAIC Maxus’ Market Position
Speaking about the partnership, Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Drivetrain and Morse Systems, highlighted the impact of the collaboration: “BorgWarner’s relationship with SAIC Maxus spans more than a decade. Our transfer case technology not only supports SAIC Maxus in strengthening its position in the Chinese market but also empowers its expansion into overseas markets. This collaboration not only showcases BorgWarner’s technical expertise but also underscores our capability for local R&D in China.”

BorgWarner’s advanced transfer cases incorporate the company’s proprietary HY-VO® driveline chain, designed to enhance efficiency under high-speed operating conditions. The transfer cases offer:
- 2 Wheel Drive High Range (2H) and AUTO modes, improving fuel efficiency on paved roads compared to full-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) systems.
- On-demand 4WD capability, enhancing safety, handling, and drivability in variable road conditions.
- Mechanical locking mode, delivering superior off-road performance, climbing ability, and recovery capability.
