BorgWarner, a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, has announced an extension of its wastegate turbocharger programs with a major North American-based automaker. The agreement ensures the continued supply of turbocharged engines for the manufacturer’s midsized and large SUVs, as well as truck applications, with production running through 2028 and beyond.
Advanced Wastegate Turbo Technology for Efficiency and Performance
BorgWarner’s wastegate turbochargers are designed for durability, lightweight construction, and quick boost response, delivering enhanced engine performance. These turbochargers feature electrically actuated wastegate technology, which enables precise control of boost levels, improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. By efficiently managing excess energy buildup, the turbochargers contribute to a smoother and more powerful driving experience.
A Decade-Long Partnership Strengthened
“BorgWarner has a longstanding and trusted relationship with this OEM, having supplied them with our turbochargers for more than 10 years,” said Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Turbos and Thermal Technologies. “These platform extensions are a testament to the strong collaboration between our engineering teams and we look forward to continuing our work together through the rest of this decade and beyond.”
Optimized Turbocharger Design for Versatile Applications
BorgWarner’s wastegate turbochargers enhance engine output, generating more horsepower while maintaining a compact design. Depending on the OEM’s engine platform, some configurations require a single turbo, while others incorporate twin-turbo setups for increased power. While the contract extension does not involve major technological changes, BorgWarner has invested extensively in optimized air flow designs to ensure each turbocharger meets precise performance specifications.
By extending this partnership, BorgWarner continues to play a key role in advancing turbocharged gasoline engine technology, supporting the evolution of fuel-efficient and high-performance vehicles in North America.
