Axiro Semiconductor Opens Flagship Fabless Design Centre in Bengaluru, Marking a Milestone in India’s Semiconductor Ambitions

In a significant move that underlines India’s growing influence in the global semiconductor ecosystem, Axiro Semiconductor Pvt Ltd has inaugurated its state-of-the-art fabless semiconductor design centre in Whitefield, Bengaluru. As India’s first fabless semiconductor company operating at scale, Axiro is setting a new precedent in chip innovation, with millions of integrated circuits (ICs) shipped each month to global tech giants like Ericsson, Nokia, Hughes, and Siemens.

Fabless Innovation for the Next Tech Wave

With its core strength in next-generation chip design, Axiro Semiconductor is strategically positioned at the intersection of several high-impact industries including 5G/6G infrastructure, strategic defence, satellite communications, and industrial IoT. Unlike traditional semiconductor companies that operate manufacturing plants, Axiro follows a fabless model, focusing exclusively on the design and intellectual property (IP) development of advanced chips while relying on global foundry partners for fabrication.

The newly launched Bengaluru facility, designed to foster cutting-edge innovation, features advanced chip design labs, ergonomic workspaces, and scalable infrastructure that will support a doubling of the R&D team by 2026. It also reflects the company’s dedication to environmentally sustainable practices, with an ESG roadmap already in progress.

CG Power Invests $36 Million to Power India’s Chip Design Future

Backing Axiro’s bold vision is CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd, part of the Murugappa Group, which has invested $36 million in the venture. This strategic investment marks CG Power’s formal entry into the semiconductor design space, signaling the group’s commitment to positioning India as a global semiconductor design hub.

Speaking at the high-profile inauguration, Mr. Sushil Pal, CEO of ISM said, “Axiro is a milestone for India’s semiconductor mission. It reflects the vision of self-reliance with global relevance”.

Other key attendees included Mr. Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power and Cholamandalam Investment; Dr. Naveen Yanduru, CEO of Axiro Semiconductor; and top officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Powering India’s Global Chip Aspirations

Axiro’s entry into the fabless semiconductor space marks a crucial shift in India’s journey toward technological sovereignty. The company is already driving chip design for AI, automotive systems, and IoT applications, with global scalability built into its model. Its high-performance silicon meets international reliability standards, bolstering India’s presence in the highly competitive semiconductor value chain.

Vellayan Subbiah, speaking at the event, underlined the importance of academic and industrial collaboration, stating, “Breakthrough innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence will continue to propel Axiro forward.” With a strong foundation in R&D, strategic partnerships, and ESG alignment, Axiro is uniquely positioned to lead India’s next wave of semiconductor breakthroughs.

Axiro Semiconductor’s new design centre is more than just a facility — it is a symbol of India’s readiness to lead in high-value, high-tech sectors globally.
