AWS Launches First Space Tech Accelerator Program in India, with T-Hub, and Minfy

Amazon Web Services (AWS) India Private Limited has unveiled the AWS Space Accelerator: India, in partnership with T-Hub and Minfy, aiming to nurture startups focusing on space technology. This initiative marks AWS’s inaugural accelerator program in India tailored for space sector startups, following the memorandum of understanding (MoU) it signed with ISRO and IN-SPACe last September, aiming to support and nurture innovation in the space-tech sector.

What is AWS Space Accelerator?

The 14-week accelerator program offers India-based startups dedicated business resources, technology expertise, and guidance to leverage AWS services for mission development, growth, and scalability. It caters to both early-stage and mature startups in India’s space sector, providing them with a platform to accelerate their growth and investment opportunities. Interested startups can register for the program by March 17th, 2024, via the provided link.

What challenges does the AWS Space Accelerator address?

Space tech startups face significant challenges, including capital investment requirements and access to skilled personnel. The accelerator program aims to tackle these hurdles by allowing startups to build and test their solutions using simulation technologies on AWS before making substantial capital investments. This approach enables rapid experimentation at a lower cost, enhancing solutions before scaling them.

What are the benefits for participating Startups?

Qualified startups stand to gain various benefits, including up to US$100,000 in AWS credits, guidance from experts at ISRO, IN-SPACe, and AWS, and business and technology support from T-Hub and Minfy, an AWS Premier Partner. The program will cover space domain technologies, leveraging space data, and building scalable solutions using cloud computing, data analytics, and machine learning, including the potential application of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

Applications and Evaluation Process

The application process for the AWS Space Accelerator: India is now open. Startups will be evaluated based on factors such as the uniqueness or innovativeness of their solutions, product-market fit, the overall value proposition, creative application of AWS technology, and the team’s capability to deliver on the identified opportunity.

ISRO and IN-SPACe will provide support in line with prevailing guidelines, fostering startup innovation in India’s space sector. T-Hub will offer insights into business establishment, fundraising strategies, and pitch presentations, while Minfy will conduct technical sessions covering AWS knowledge and cloud architecture, enabling startups for accelerated development.

Global Commitment to Space Innovation

The AWS Space Accelerator: India program aligns with AWS’s global commitment to supporting startup innovation in the space sector. Previous editions of the program have benefited startups worldwide, including those like Blue Sky Analytics and Kawa, headquartered in India and the United States, respectively.

This initiative underscores AWS’s dedication to fostering innovation and sustainability in India’s space industry, leveraging technology to address challenges and drive growth in the sector.
