Apple Brings Game-Changing Health Features to India: Apple Watch Can Detect Sleep Apnoea Signs, AirPods Pro Now Test Hearing at Home

Apple users in India have a reason to be excited as the company has introduced advanced health monitoring features on its devices, making personal healthcare more accessible than ever. Starting today, Apple Watch users can receive sleep apnoea notifications, while AirPods Pro users can access a clinically validated Hearing Test feature — all from the comfort of their homes.

The latest additions strengthen Apple’s growing focus on turning everyday devices into powerful health companions, helping users monitor serious conditions before they become major concerns.

Apple Watch Can Alert Users About Possible Sleep Apnoea

Sleep health plays a major role in overall physical and mental wellbeing. However, sleep apnoea — a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep — often remains undiagnosed despite affecting millions globally. If untreated, it may increase the risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart-related issues.

Apple Watch now introduces sleep apnoea notifications through a new metric called Breathing Disturbances. Using its built-in accelerometer, the smartwatch tracks subtle wrist movements linked to interruptions in normal breathing patterns during sleep.

Every 30 days, Apple Watch analyses collected data and alerts users if signs indicate moderate to severe sleep apnoea. This could encourage users to consult healthcare professionals earlier and seek proper diagnosis or treatment.

Benefit for Indian Users: Earlier Health Warnings Without Hospital Visits

One of the biggest advantages for Indian consumers is convenience. Instead of waiting for symptoms to worsen or scheduling immediate sleep studies, users can receive early insights directly through their smartwatch.

The feature could help users become more aware of sleep-related health issues and potentially take preventive action sooner.

Users Can Share Detailed Health Reports With Doctors

Apple allows users to export a PDF report containing information about possible sleep apnoea occurrences, breathing disturbance history for up to three months, and other health insights.

This may help doctors make more informed decisions during consultations. Educational resources inside the Health app also provide users with additional information about sleep apnoea and related concerns.

Benefit for Indian Users: Better Conversations With Healthcare Providers

Having detailed health records stored digitally can make medical consultations more effective. Instead of relying only on memory, users can share actual tracked data with doctors.

AirPods Pro Now Offer Hearing Tests at Home

Apple has also launched a clinically validated Hearing Test feature for AirPods Pro users. Hearing loss often develops gradually, making it difficult for many people to notice changes early.

The new feature allows users to complete a hearing assessment in approximately five minutes using AirPods Pro and a compatible iPhone or iPad — without visiting a clinic.

The hearing test is based on pure-tone audiometry, a widely used clinical method for evaluating hearing ability.

Benefit for Indian Users: Convenient Hearing Checks Without Extra Equipment

For users in India, especially those with limited access to specialised hearing clinics, the ability to test hearing levels at home could provide added convenience and encourage regular monitoring.

Easy-to-Understand Results and Secure Data Storage

After completing the test, users receive a simple summary showing hearing levels for each ear, hearing classifications, and recommendations. Results, including an audiogram, are stored securely in the Health app and can be shared with healthcare professionals if needed.

Apple says the Hearing Test feature was developed using large-scale real-world data and insights from the Apple Hearing Study.

Apple Is Turning Everyday Gadgets Into Personal Health Assistants

With these new launches, Apple is moving beyond smartphones and wearables by positioning its devices as proactive health tools. For Indian users, this means easier access to health monitoring features that can support early detection, awareness, and informed medical decisions — all through devices many already use daily.

What does Apple’s leader have to say?

“At Apple, we believe technology should empower people to take control of their health, and that starts with giving users tools to detect conditions they may not even know they have,” said Sumbul Desai, M.D., Apple’s vice president of Health and Fitness. “From sleep apnoea notifications on Apple Watch to a hearing test with AirPods Pro, we’re excited to bring these meaningful capabilities to our users in India.”
