Airtel, a prominent telecom provider, has officially introduced its 5G services across all 22 telecom circles utilizing the 26 GHz spectrum. The accomplishment of this deployment aligns with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines on minimum roll-out obligations (MRO), as validated through testing within the Mumbai LSA.
The acquisition of 19,800 MHz spectrum, encompassing the 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands, as well as some mid-band spectrum, was a strategic move by Airtel. In the July 2022 auction, the company invested Rs. 43,084 crore to establish a comprehensive pan-India coverage.
Having commenced its 5G rollout in October of the previous year, Airtel has already introduced 5G services in nearly 5,000 cities and towns across the nation. The company’s ambitious plans involve extending 5G coverage to all major Indian cities by December 2023.
