Bharti Airtel has announced a US$1 billion investment in its data center subsidiary Nxtra Data Limited, led by global investors Alpha Wave Global, The Carlyle Group, and Anchorage Capital. Airtel will also participate in the funding round while retaining a controlling stake in Nxtra. The deal remains subject to regulatory approvals in India.
Investment Breakdown and Valuation
As part of the transaction, Alpha Wave Global will invest US$435 million, Carlyle will contribute US$240 million, and Anchorage Capital will invest US$35 million, with the remaining capital coming from Airtel. Following the completion of the deal, Nxtra is expected to be valued at approximately US$3.1 billion, marking a significant milestone in its growth journey.

India’s Data Center Market Sees Rapid Growth
India’s data center industry is witnessing strong momentum, driven by digital transformation, cloud adoption, and rising hyperscaler demand. The sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 21 percent between 2024 and 2030, reaching nearly 3,400 MW of IT capacity, reflecting the increasing need for scalable and efficient infrastructure.
Nxtra’s Expanding Infrastructure Footprint
Headquartered in New Delhi, Nxtra currently operates 14 core data centers and over 120 edge facilities across India. Its service portfolio includes co-location, cloud infrastructure, managed hosting, data backup, disaster recovery, and edge computing solutions.
The company has already established a state-of-the-art facility in Pune and is developing additional AI-ready campuses in Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata to meet growing demand.
Strategic Partnership with Google for AI Data Centers
Nxtra has also partnered with Google to build a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus, backed by a $15 billion investment. This collaboration further strengthens Nxtra’s position in the high-growth AI infrastructure segment.
