In a landmark announcement today, Acer Inc. (TWSE: 2353) revealed its forward-looking Acer Conscious Technology Vision during a press conference held in Dubai. The company showcased its commitment to environmentally responsible technology, emphasizing considerations for the future. Acer also provided insights into its ongoing climate initiatives, unveiling two new energy storage solutions and a climate exhibition that opened its doors to the public.
As part of its sustainability pledge, Acer has joined the RE100 initiative, vowing to source 100% renewable electricity by 2035 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In a demonstration of industry leadership, 60% of Acer’s critical suppliers have committed to RE100 or established science-based carbon reduction targets (SBT). The company aims to incorporate 20-30% post-consumer recycled plastic in its computers and monitors by 2025, having already achieved a commendable 17% usage in 2022.
During the event, Acer highlighted several key initiatives, including its Vero product line crafted with a significant proportion of recycled materials. The Project Humanity initiative was also introduced, fostering environmental awareness and action among Acer’s global workforce. The Earthion platform, a collaborative effort with supply chain partners, focuses on addressing environmental challenges through innovative and integrated solutions. Acer is actively working to reduce sea logistics emissions with biofuel and exploring sustainable packaging materials with manufacturing partners under the Earthion umbrella.
Acer’s Chairman and CEO, Jason Chen said, “We must speed up the adoption of renewable energy to fight climate change caused by global warming. In 2022, the Acer Group reached 44% of renewable electricity usage. To reach our goal of 100%, solar and wind power utilization in energy storage technology will be the key. We are taking decisive actions that advocate circular economies and providing solutions that minimize the negative impacts on our environment.”
In alignment with its net-zero commitment, Acer is expanding its footprint in the energy storage industry, offering comprehensive solutions across the supply chain. From household to industrial use, Acer aims to contribute to the energy transition with its investments in battery cell technologies, unveiling new energy storage solutions as part of an extended portfolio.
The exhibition, themed “Conscious Technology for a Brighter Tomorrow,” is located at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai. It showcases Acer’s ongoing climate efforts and technology designed with future considerations. The exhibition is organized around four lifestyle concepts: Concept for Working, Concept for Learning, Concept for Moving, and Concept for Living. Each concept addresses specific environmental goals, including resource conservation, reduced carbon footprints, and increased sustainability across various aspects of daily life. Acer’s vision for a brighter and more sustainable future is vividly illustrated in this groundbreaking exhibition.
