Acer has announced its commitment to carbon neutrality for the Aspire Vero laptop series, starting with the new Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P). Adhering to international standards for carbon footprint calculation and neutrality, Acer is implementing measures at each stage of the device lifecycle to minimize its carbon footprint. High-quality carbon credits will be utilized to achieve carbon neutrality.
Jerry Kao, COO of Acer Inc., emphasized the company’s dedication to addressing climate change challenges. He said, “To help tackle the increasing challenges posed by climate change, on the product side, Acer is proposing ‘conscious technology’ designed and made with consideration for the future. On the corporate side, Acer has joined the RE100 initiative and is committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2035. We have also pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”
The Aspire Vero laptops have been designed with eco-consciousness from manufacturing to end-of-life recycling.
The Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P) features improvements in various aspects:
- Color, Material, and Finish: The chassis incorporates over 60% recycled plastic, an increase from 30% in the first generation. The surface is free of volatile organic compounds, paint, or additives, and the touchpad uses ocean-bound plastic.
- Components: Equipped with the latest Intel® Core™ Ultra processors for enhanced power efficiency. The new integrated neural processing unit (NPU) delivers AI-powered capabilities with extreme power efficiency.
- Packaging: Utilizes 100% recyclable packaging and incorporates scrap material recycling during production. The 100% recycled FSC-certified paper box is designed for easy repurposing.
- Shipping: Acer has partnered with logistics providers to reduce emissions from standard sea containers through the use of biofuel on various routes.
- Usage: Features AcerSense™ battery management software with four performance modes (Eco+, Eco, Balanced, and Performance) focusing on energy efficiency.
- Recycling and Repair: Designed for easy disassembly, using standard screws for quick repair, upgrades, or recycling.
After implementing these emission reduction measures, Acer plans to retire high-quality carbon credits to achieve carbon neutrality. Further details about the Acer Aspire Vero 16 will be unveiled in January in Las Vegas.
