Google is expanding its AI capabilities for customers using its cloud platform

To compete with rivals like Microsoft Corp. and startup OpenAI, Google has announced several new AI-powered features for customers of its cloud-computing business.

Google Cloud has revealed its efforts to keep up with the latest trend in AI technology, known as generative AI, which involves software creating images, text, and video based on user prompts. During a demonstration, Google Cloud showcased how its AI tools can help customers create sales-training documents and presentations, take meeting notes, and draft emails to colleagues. Additionally, the company has made some of its AI models available to developers, enabling them to create their own applications using Google’s technology.

Thomas Kurian, chief executive officer of Google Cloud-“We believe in having a broad, vibrant partner ecosystem for AI.”

Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc., announced on Tuesday that it had onboarded a number of AI startups as customers for its cloud service. Among these startups are Midjourney, which provides an image-generation system, and AI21, a company specializing in large language models. To support these emerging AI-focused businesses, Google is offering $250,000 worth of free use of its cloud services for the first year, which is 2.5 times more than the typical offer.
